Q: What is my OVO account ID?

Your OVO account ID, usually referred to as your OVO account number , is the reference used to identify your energy account. You may need it when contacting OVO, making a payment, or dealing with account-related queries. You can normally find your account number on your OVO bill, statement, or within your online account. When making a bank transfer, OVO says you should include your account number and postcode in the payment reference so the payment can be matched to your account.

Q: Who is buying OVO Energy?

E.ON is set to acquire OVO Energy , subject to regulatory approvals. OVO announced in May 2026 that it would become part of E.ON. The companies said that OVO's energy business would join E.ON, while OVO's Home Services business, including boiler insurance and servicing, would move to Hometree, also subject to regulatory approval. Until the transaction is completed, OVO and E.ON are continuing to operate as separate businesses.

Q: What country owns OVO Energy?

OVO Energy was founded in the United Kingdom and is a UK-based energy company. In 2026, OVO announced plans to become part of E.ON , a major energy company headquartered in Germany, subject to regulatory approvals. So, the ownership situation is changing: OVO remains a UK energy business for customers, while its announced future parent company is Germany-based E.ON.

Question 1

Can I withdraw money from my OVO account?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if your OVO Energy account is in credit, you may be able to request a refund. OVO generally requires enough credit to cover at least one month’s Direct Debit payment, and your account must meet its refund conditions. The minimum refund you can request is £5. You can request a refund through your online OVO account or app, or contact OVO directly if you need assistance.

If you are switching energy suppliers or moving home, eligible credit is normally refunded after your final statement.

Question 2

What is my OVO account ID?

Accepted Answer

Your OVO account ID, usually referred to as your OVO account number, is the reference used to identify your energy account. You may need it when contacting OVO, making a payment, or dealing with account-related queries.

You can normally find your account number on your OVO bill, statement, or within your online account. When making a bank transfer, OVO says you should include your account number and postcode in the payment reference so the payment can be matched to your account.

Question 3

How long do I have to pay my OVO bill?

Accepted Answer

The payment timing depends on how your OVO Energy account is set up. If you pay by Direct Debit, OVO normally collects your agreed monthly payment automatically. Direct Debit payments can take around 3–4 working days to appear on your account.

If your account has a balance to pay, check your latest bill or online account for the payment information and amount due. If you're struggling to pay, OVO also provides payment-support options rather than simply leaving customers to manage the debt themselves.

Question 4

Can I have two OVO Energy accounts?

Accepted Answer

You may have more than one OVO Energy account in circumstances such as having multiple properties or separate energy supplies. However, whether separate accounts are appropriate depends on your circumstances and how your properties are supplied.

If you have moved house or are responsible for energy at another property, it is best to check your OVO account details or contact OVO so that each property is correctly registered.

Question 5

Is OVO Energy cheaper?

Accepted Answer

There is no single answer because the cost of an OVO Energy tariff depends on factors such as your tariff, unit rates, standing charges, energy consumption, payment method and location.

Instead of judging whether OVO is always cheaper, compare the unit rates, standing charges and estimated annual cost of the tariff with other available energy deals. Your actual bill will also depend on how much gas and electricity you use.

Question 6

Is OVO Energy being investigated?

Accepted Answer

OVO Energy has been subject to regulatory investigations by Ofgem. One significant investigation concerned OVO's monitoring of prepayment-meter customers, including customers on the Priority Services Register.

Ofgem announced on 3 June 2026 that this investigation had been closed. According to Ofgem, OVO agreed to a settlement that included a £7 million payment to Ofgem's Voluntary Redress Fund and a £3.4 million credit and debt-relief package for certain vulnerable customers.

It is important to distinguish a regulatory investigation from a finding that a company is unable to operate. Ofgem's earlier investigation page also stated that opening or extending an investigation did not itself mean that non-compliance had been established.

Question 7

Is OVO Energy struggling financially?

Accepted Answer

Financial performance can change over time, so it is better to look at the company's latest financial information rather than assume that OVO is struggling based on individual news reports or regulatory matters.

OVO has also announced a proposed transaction under which it is set to become part of E.ON, subject to regulatory approvals. OVO says that, until the transaction completes, OVO and E.ON will continue to operate as separate businesses and customers' energy supply, tariffs and balances remain unchanged.

Question 8

Is OVO Energy trustworthy?

Accepted Answer

Whether OVO Energy is right for you depends on the factors that matter most to you, such as pricing, customer service, billing, tariffs and regulatory record.

OVO is a major UK energy supplier, but like other large energy companies, it has also faced regulatory scrutiny. For example, Ofgem announced the closure of its prepayment-meter investigation in June 2026 following an agreed settlement.

For a balanced assessment, customers should consider current tariffs, official regulatory information and recent customer-service information rather than relying on a single review or headline.
